The Merchant of Venice
June 12-14, 20, 21
In the Brooks and Bates Theatre
The Merchant of Venice is one of the Bard’s more famous comedies. It is a story of love, loyalty and devotion set amidst the world of international trade and finance. It is a dark comedy of boy borrows money from friend to get girl—boy gets girl— then there is this super hilarious part where the friend who loaned boy the money is about to have his heart ripped out by the banker as payment. So, boy goes back to help friend—unbeknownst to boy, girl dresses up as lawyer—girl saves the day, and all’s well that ends well.
